Application / Fees

Attention November 2007 CRA Exam Test Takers:
The November 2007 exam results will be completed and mailed early- to mid-January, 4-6 weeks after the end of the exam period.

We were pleased to be able to offer applicants greater flexibility in scheduling their exam sittings, but, in order to grade and score the exams properly, the exams must be scored all together, after all the exams in the November period (up to November 30, 2007) are completed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Any applications submitted past the deadline must include an additional $35.00 late fee and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    • The candidate must write AHRA to cancel or reschedule the session at cra@ahraonline.org
    • After you have scheduled your exam through Castle’s NTS system you will be changed $75 to reschedule or cancel the exam
    • If the request is made fewer than five (5) business days in advance of the testing appointment, the candidate will be considered a no-show, and in order to take the exam you will need to pay $140 to reschedule

Computer-based Exam Scheduling

Beginning with the November 2007 examination, the CRA examination will be offered throughout the entire month of November and May each year. This will allow you to have more site options as well as more examination dates from which to choose. Normally there are over 130 different examination sites from which to choose within each testing month. Each site will offer at least two or three testing dates within the month. Please note you will only be able to take the exam once during the month and the results will be mailed to you within 4 weeks of the last date of the exam month.

Once you have registered, you can expect to receive a Notice To Schedule (NTS) via e-mail from CASTLE Worldwide, Inc. The NTSs will be sent no later than 25 days prior to the examination window. Your NTS will provide you with:

  1. The web address for scheduling your examination appointment
  2. Your username and password

You will need to submit your scheduling request online no later than 15 days prior to the examination date on which you wish to test. Therefore, we encourage you to submit your request early so that you have the benefit of choosing from more sites and dates. To submit your request, you will:

  1. Go to the scheduling website as indicated on your NTS
  2. Enter your username and password
  3. Click on the city in which you want to test from the drop down menu. This list contains all the cities and exam times that are currently available during the examination window.
  4. Once you have submitted your request, you can expect to receive your confirmation e-mail within 48 to 72 hours. If the site and date option you chose is no longer available (i.e., the site became full), you will receive an e-mail letting you know which sites and dates are still available.

CRA Examination Eligibility

Eligibility is based on a point system with seven (7) points needed to sit for the exam. Points are earned through education, experience, and credentials (see chart below).

Education points are not cumulative for each level of education; only the point(s) for the highest education applies. For example, if you have both a Certificate and a BS degree, you may only claim the three (3) points earned for holding a BS degree.

Experience is defined as management, supervisory, or administrative experience in radiology or medical imaging with responsibility for 3 of the 5 domain areas of the exam. At least 1 point must be from education, or more than 10 years experience with no education points.

Education Discipline Point Value

Experience 1 point per yr

Note: CRA exam applicants must have at least one (1) point earned through education, or have a minimum of ten (10) years experience without an education point. Experience is related to human radiology only.

Anyone who accumulates the seven (7) points may sit for the exam, whether you are an AHRA member or not.

Content

The certification exam tests knowledge in five (5) domain (content) areas:

(1) Human Resource Management
(2) Asset Resource Management
(3) Fiscal Management
(4) Operations Management
(5) Communication and Information Management

The CRA exam consists of 185 questions based on these five (5) management domains. Approximately 30% of the questions are based on knowledge, 40% test application skills (problem solving), and 30% are analysis.

Exam Results

Tests are scored on a pass/fail basis. All administrators taking the test will receive a diagnostic score report that shows how they fared in each domain area.

You will receive your score report approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the CRA examination.

ARRT will grant 24 ARRT Category A Continuing Education credits for the successful completion of the CRA examination. Candidates who have successfully completed the CRA exam by achieving a passing score, will be awarded 12 CRA continuing education credits. These credits will count in the first renewal towards the 36 credits necessary to maintain the CRA credential.

Certified Radiology Administrator applicants may retake the examination no sooner than three (3) months after the prior examination. At the present time, there is no maximum number of times a candidate may take the CRA examination. Application and examination fees must be submitted for each examination administration.
